To even consider a bike ride across the country, my training will need to begin long before Michigan winters even think about releasing the residents from its icy grips. So I packed practically everything I own into storage, moved out of my apartment and told my manager at work “you don’t need me anymore”, and drove to Tucson Arizona.
UPS and FedEx and the local mail carrier only have to see my name on a box to know what house it goes to. It’s quite fun to come home every day and discover what items were delivered while I was a work. I can honestly see now how shopping can become an addiction. This is fun!
Being back in Michigan I’m finding it difficult to actually get out on my bike and train. Being early May here the weather can be not so friendly for outdoor activities. However, when it is nice, I still find it hard to get the bike out. One of the main reasons is there just isn’t a good place to ride around here.
Since the beginning of this year, the intent was to begin my ride in Banff AB Canada, the first week of July ‘Eh’. As pointed out in the previous post, money was going toward gear at an alarming rate. Unless a winning lottery ticket was in my immediate future, I was gonna be short of funds with an early July departure date. So I decided to push the date back to the second week of July.
