Woke this morning to a fog covering the valley but I could see that the sky was cloud free, providing me at least rain-free morning.

Between the winds and the damn cattle across the highway from the campground mooing all damn night, I didn’t sleep well. Been sleeping in cattle country many nights now, even with them coming through my camp more than once, and this is the first time they never shut the hell up.
Todays ride started on nice very low traveled paved road. The road eventually turned to dirt but I must say its one of the smoothest dirt roads I’ve ever seen! In Michigan, we wish our PAVED roads were this good. With the good roads along with moderate elevation changes allowed for a high mileage day.

Had a decent nights sleep in the Tepee. Did have a good laugh just after we all turned in for the night. Next door at the Mercantile they were having a party. When the party ended we could hear everything, including one inebriated woman who loudly proclaimed with slurred speech… “I’m driving!”

Woke up very early this morning with an opportunity to watch a very beautiful sunrise coming over the mountains. Hit the trail about 8:30 to find the road was actually better heading out of A&M than it was heading into it. Fairly good dirt road and able to make good time.

Was up early to get to the continental breakfast offered at the hotel and visit a nearby grocery store to stock up on supplies. When I got back to the hotel I had one more fill of the breakfast with Gene before hitting the trail. On the road about 9:00 am the Wyoming winds quickly grew and if they were not coming at me straight head on, it was pretty darn close.

Woke to clear skies and sun just starting to poke through the trees. Wish I had picked a camp spot that had a clear view of the eastern sky in order to catch the morning sun to help warm me up and dry things out. Had to pack several things away wet to hit the trail this morning.

Was in no hurry to get going this morning because today’s destination of Steamboat Springs, Colorado was a cool 34 miles away and mostly downhill. Had a good morning chatting before finally getting underway about 11:00.

Was in no hurry getting out of Steamboat this morning. Bid a farewell to the MS bike crew and Gaston because those guys were staying an extra day or two to relax and take in the sights. Not sure if we would ever cross paths again.

The weather was looking fair when I poked my head out of the tent this morning. Had grand plans of riding 60 to 70 miles today because I needed to be in Silverthorne, CO by noon tomorrow (Saturday) to pick up a package at the post office, which contained my next two maps. If I didn’t make before they closed at noon, I would have to wait in Silverthorne until Tuesday because Monday is Labor Day.

Yesterday when I made it into Kremmling CO, found my favorite place to grab something to eat on the route… Subway. Sitting in Subway shivering cold and wet I was happy to be warming up and having a nice meal.
